Ebola Outbreak Spreads in DR Congo’s Ituri Province Amid Rising Fears
The Democratic Republic of Congo is now experiencing an epidemic of Ebola virus in the Ituri province which is progressing rapidly. According to health experts, there may be more people infected with the disease than reported because of the region’s insecurity, high mobility of the population, and rebel activity in the area. This type of Ebola infection is caused by a rare Bundibugyo strain for which there is not yet any vaccine approved. People who live in the affected areas are now scared, but despite the arrival of international help, there is still a lack of protective gear and screening measures which has forced neighboring nations such as Rwanda and Uganda to increase their security and health controls.
